When asked about the inspiration behind the book, O’Brien shared, “Throughout my career working in technology consulting, I have traveled all over the world engaging with clients. Writing in the mornings and evenings to gear up or diffuse from the day helped me to focus. Writing seemed to be a calm activity, a break from the grind, and it came naturally to me. While on vacation, cruising the Mediterranean, we visited the island of Mallorca and took the train from Palma to Sóller. I immediately fell in love with the town, the people, and the atmosphere. The story just came to me as I stood near the train station. I started writing it that very evening on the cruise ship.“
